If you’re really struggling for a Halloween costume, these could temporarily double as fangs. Really tasty fangs that most likely aren’t very comfortable (I’m a witch so I’ve not tested the fang costume).
As you can see I’ve paired my pita chips with taramasalata (fabulous combo) but if you do not have fishy tendencies or you want something a little more fancy then pair them with my artichoke dip. Then no one will care if you have a Halloween costume or not, should they look up from gobbling the pita/dip combo, your attire will be the least of their worries. Low down the list after ‘where do I get more?’.
Warning: Totally crispy. Don’t eat with false teeth.
Crispy Garlic Pita Chips
Quantities: Serves 4-6 as a starter Timings: 25 mins Kitchen Stuff: Chopping board, medium sized bowl, baking tray, tongs, Pastry brush or spatula (doesn’t matter if you have neither) Ingredients:
6 Wholemeal Pita 3-4 large Garlic cloves, finely chopped or pressed Olive oil (or rapeseed oil) Flaky salt and ground black pepper
Method
1. Make sure you’ve preheated your oven. 220C please.
2. In your medium sized bowl, mix 3-4 tbsp olive oil, your smushed garlic cloves and salt and pepper.
3. Here you have two options, depending on whether you have a pastry brush/spatula and how much oil you want to use. You want your pita triangles lightly coated with the garlicy oil, not dripping.
Option 1: More oil and no pastry brush
Chop your pita into triangles and toss small batches in bowl with the oil and garlic. If you need more oil, go for it.
Option 2: Less oil, more delicate
Brush your oil/garlic mix delicately onto the whole unchopped pita on either side using a pastry brush or spatula. Then cut the pita into triangles.
4. Arrange your pita triangles on a baking tray, don’t pile on top of each other – just the one layer please.
5. Bake for about 7 minutes until lightly brown and crispy on top. Using your tongs, flip them over and bake for a further 7 minutes. Keep an eye as they may need more or less time depending on your oven. See photos for ideal brown crispyness.
